The Audiology and Speech Center of ÉðÊ¿Âþ» offers a full range of audiologic services to the public. Staffed by experienced licensed and certified audiology faculty and doctor of audiology students, the Center provides comprehensive diagnostic and treatment services.

Hearing Evaluations
- Tests to identify type and degree of hearing loss.
- Tests to evaluate receptive communication abilities (speech understanding in quiet and in difficult listening conditions).
- Tests to evaluate auditory processing abilities (how the central nervous system (CNS) uses auditory information).
- Tests to evaluate tinnitus (ringing in the ears) and hyperacusis (sensitivity to loud sounds including types and degree of annoyance).
- Audiologic treatment recommendations (hearing aids, tinnitus aids, assistive listening devices and systems, computerized and non-computerized auditory training programs; tinnitus/hyperacusis desensitization programs)
- Referral recommendations (medical specialists; non-medical specialists; special educators).

Hearing Aids
- Complete hearing aid services including selection, fitting, orientation, and repairs.
- Full range of diagnostic testing to determine if you have a hearing loss and if so, your treatment options.
- State-of-the-art equipment including testing equipment and hearing aids.
- Demonstration units to enable you to sample various hearing aids before you purchase, and all hearing aids include a 30 day return period.
- Commitment to making sure that we optimize your communication by providing ample time in a relaxed atmosphere with supportive professionals.
- Provision of hearing care by Doctor of Audiology students and licensed, certified, and experienced Audiology Faculty.
- Assistive Listening Devices such as vibrating alarm clocks, amplified telephones, and special smoke detectors.
- Custom earplugs for musicians, hunters, and swimmers.

Hearing Assistive Technology
Virginia Wilson Assistive Listening Device Center
By combining caring professionalism with advanced hearing technology, the Virginia E. Wilson Assistive Listening Device Center at the University of Akron is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for people who are hearing impaired. The Center, a component of the University’s Audiology and Speech Center, is located in the Polsky Building, a downtown Akron landmark.
The Assistive Listening Device Center was recently renovated and reopened for members of the community with hearing impairment as well as Doctor of Audiology students and the faculty who work with them.
