The latest Best Law Schools ranking released today by U.S. News & World Report recognized three University of Akron School of Law programs as among the top 50 in the country – and best in Ohio – in their respective specialty areas.
The Intellectual Property Law program tied for No. 41 with six other schools. Trial Advocacy tied for No. 34 with eight other schools, including Harvard University. Our Part-time Law Program tied for No. 37 with two other schools. In each category, Akron Law was ranked highest (or tied for highest) among Ohio law schools.
“We are pleased to be recognized by U.S. News for our long-standing strength in IP law and trial advocacy and for our part-time JD program,” said Christopher J. (C.J.) Peters, dean of the law school. “While prospective law students should avoid overreliance on U.S. News or any other rankings system, we believe the specialty rankings are of some value, as they are voted on by experts in those fields.”
In the overall U.S. News Law School ranking, Akron Law moved up one spot to No. 143. “We’re glad to be moving in the right direction,” said Peters. “However, the U.S. News rankings still do not capture other important aspects of law school, such as teaching quality, hands-on experiential learning opportunities, academic and career support services, and affordabillity. These are areas in which Akron really excels. For example, we are the only top 50 national IP program with tuition less than $25,000 a year. I strongly encourage prospective law students to visit each law school they’re considering before making a decision.”
The David and Ann Amer Brennan Courtroom was part of a recent $21 million renovation to the McDowell Law Center on the University of Akron campus.
