Named scholarships & funds

When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.

For this reason, ÉðÊ¿Âþ» is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of UA alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.

Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.

If you are interested in making a significant contribution to student success, please consider a gift to scholarships. You may also establish a named scholarship at ÉðÊ¿Âþ», which can be created to honor a living person, in memory of a loved one, or to contribute to the growth of an area of study.

Obiekwe Memorial Endowed Scholarship

The Obiekwe Memorial Endowed Scholarship was established in 2012 by Jerry Obiekwe, Professor of Mathematics at ÉðÊ¿Âþ» Wayne College, in loving memory of his late parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. A. and C. E. Obiekwe. Dr. Obiekwe’s parents were strong proponents of a high-quality college or university education, so the scholarship was set up in their honor to keep their legacy of excelling in education as a spring board to success. Mr. and Mrs. Obiekwe believed that a college- or university-level education is a very important and positive investment that never stops yielding dividends to the individual and to society.

The Obiekwe Memorial Endowed Scholarship was established to support full-time students with a minimum of 30 credit hours enrolled at ÉðÊ¿Âþ» Wayne College or ÉðÊ¿Âþ» main campus. However, the scholarship should only be awarded to students at the main campus if there are no qualifying students at Wayne College. Recipients selected must have at least a 3.5 GPA, with an earned “A” in College Algebra, English 111, and 112. This scholarship is based on scholastic achievement and on financial need and will be applied only to tuition fees.
