When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.

For this reason, ÉðÊ¿Âþ»­ is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of UA alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.

Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.

If you are interested in making a significant contribution to student success, please consider a gift to scholarships. You may also establish a named scholarship at ÉðÊ¿Âþ»­, which can be created to honor a living person, in memory of a loved one, or to contribute to the growth of an area of study.

Students who want to apply for scholarships should visit the scholarship page on the Financial Aid site. You can find the link for the online application here.

The Department of Development does not accept applications for or distribute scholarships. Scholarships are distributed through the University’s Office of Student Financial Aid.

Rickel, Dr. Todd and Christin Scholarship

The Dr. Todd and Christin Rickel Scholarship was established in 2015 (and revised in 2016) through generous gifts from the Rickel family. The scholarship will assist University of Akron students in the College of Applied Science and Technology (CAST) and Wayne College who are in need of last dollars to complete their associate or bachelor’s degrees.

Candidates for The Dr. Todd and Christin Rickel Scholarship must be full- or part-time students enrolled in CAST or Wayne College with financial need and a cumulative GPA of 2.3 or higher. Preference will be given to non-traditional, first-generation students. Funds can be distributed for any term, including the summer. Scholarship committees in CAST and Wayne College, in conjunction with the Office of Student Financial Aid, will review applicants and select recipients.

The Dr. Todd and Christin Rickel Scholarship is funded through contributions from the Rickel family. Award amounts and distribution may vary depending on fund availability. Scholarship committees in CAST and Wayne College, in conjunction with the Office of Student Financial Aid, will determine award amounts and award dates.
