Named scholarships & funds

When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.

For this reason, ÉðÊ¿Âþ» is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of UA alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.

Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.

If you are interested in making a significant contribution to student success, please consider a gift to scholarships. You may also establish a named scholarship at ÉðÊ¿Âþ», which can be created to honor a living person, in memory of a loved one, or to contribute to the growth of an area of study.

Lero, Stanley J. Memorial Scholarship

The Stanley J. Lero Memorial Scholarship was established in 2016 by the family and friends of Stanley J. Lero to honor and preserve his legacy at ÉðÊ¿Âþ» College of Engineering. Stanley Lero believed that education was the key to any future and that honesty, integrity, and compassion formed the foundation to a lifelong career in engineering.

Lero attended ÉðÊ¿Âþ» and in 1949 earned his Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering. In 1956, he co-founded Lero and Markwald Engineers in Akron, Ohio, and went on to earn his Professional Engineers License in 1957. Today, the business he co-founded, now known as Lero, Rollence & Moinette Inc., continues to serve its clients utilizing Lero’s founding principle of “Superior Value through Quality Engineering.”

Students eligible for The Stanley J. Lero Memorial Scholarship must be enrolled full time in UA’s mechanical engineering program in the College of Engineering with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and demonstrated financial need.

A scholarship committee from the College of Engineering and the Office of Student Financial Aid will review qualified students based on socioeconomic factors, enrollment status, and GPA. Top candidates will be forwarded to the children of Stanley J. Lero (Candice, Alyssa, Stanley II, Tim) or their designee for selection of recipient.
