When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.
For this reason, ÉðÊ¿Âþ» is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of UA alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.
Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.
If you are interested in making a significant contribution to student success, please consider a gift to scholarships. You may also establish a named scholarship at ÉðÊ¿Âþ», which can be created to honor a living person, in memory of a loved one, or to contribute to the growth of an area of study.

Students who want to apply for scholarships should visit the scholarship page on the Financial Aid site. You can find the link for the online application here.
The Department of Development does not accept applications for or distribute scholarships. Scholarships are distributed through the University’s Office of Student Financial Aid.

Lloyd, Philip A. Endowment for Zips in Need
In recognition of ÉðÊ¿Âþ»'s 1501h Sesquicentennial Anniversary, Philip A. Lloyd established The Philip A. Lloyd Endowment for Zips in Need to support University of Akron students facing emergency financial circumstances.
Mr. Lloyd received his juris doctorate from ÉðÊ¿Âþ» School of Law in 1972 and spent his career practicing law, retiring from the law firm of Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease LLP. Mr. Lloyd continues to lead The McDowell Family Company, LLC.
Mr. Lloyd, a 2008 recipient of the Outstanding Law Alumni Award, has been a member of ÉðÊ¿Âþ» Foundation Board of Directors since 1991, and currently serves as its chairman. He also is a charter member and past chairman of the School of Law Advancement Council.
Phil and his wife, Margaret (Peggy) McDowell Lloyd, have been trusted advisors to ÉðÊ¿Âþ» and the UA Foundation for many years.
Annual distributions from The Philip A. Lloyd Endowment for Zips in Need will be used for the following purposes:
The Philip A. Lloyd Retention Scholarship. This assistance shall be awarded to students experiencing a financial emergency with the objective of keeping them enrolled in school. Assistance may be directed toward tuition costs, fees, as well as room and board. Award decisions will be made by the Vice President for Student Affairs, or their designee.
The Philip A. Lloyd Fund for ZipAssist, providing emergency financial assistance to students experiencing emergency financial need. Such support includes but is not limited to expenses associated with childcare, food/meals, gas, housing/rent, medical/dental expenses, personal automobile expenses and utilities. This assistance is to help students overcome emergency financial hardships that might otherwise cause them to abandon college. Fund allocations will be made by the Vice President for Student Affairs, or their designee, in consultation with the Director of ZipAssist.
As needs vary for students, the Vice President for Student Affairs may use the distributions, as needed for the purposes noted above.
